My Story

Dr. Brooks has served in healthcare for over 50 years with 37 of those years in leadership. She will transfer her expertise and training in management to lead and execute her business under the masterful guidance of BeeHive Homes franchise. Her extensive management skills in hospital operations to include human resources, finances, policies, procedures, has afforded her career opportunities to simultaneously direct 22 health information management departments in 12 states. Because of her experience, she has been asked to serve on Board of Directors which also enriched her capability of working with teams, setting policies and procedures, and supporting processes of accountability. As a graduate of
the 25th United Way of South Hampton Roads’ “Project Inclusion Board Governance Leadership Development Program,” this thirteen-week class aimed at sharpening leadership and management skills both personally and professionally, provided Dr. Brooks a sharper edge in leading organizations.
Her personal experiences of rendering care and being a supportive trusted caregiver has shown her how being an advocate for those who cannot take care of themselves or loved ones is still so much needed in our families and communities. Many years ago, Arnita’s mother told her, if anything ever happened to her, she wanted her to take care of Michael, brother with Congenital Down Syndrome. Of course, she said, “yes, Momma.” At that time, Momma, with 8 children was fine and well. In 2005, Momma died from metastatic cancer. Dr. Brooks became the caregiver of her adult brother with Congenital Down Syndrome for over 17 years. The last two years of his life, he was diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s, and she could no longer provide direct care to him in her home. Her love for the compassionate-care of the disabled and elderly for their holistic needs is foundational to extend to others through BeeHive Homes, especially those with memory loss.
Through the BeeHive Homes franchise, expertise of other healthcare and business professionals, Dr. Brooks will bring the first solo-focused memory care services facility to Hampton, Virginia. With her life experiences, knowledge, skills and expertise of other professionals, she will add much needed services for families and the community. She currently oversees the care and welfare of her 98.5--year-old Daddy.
